The town of Sveti Vlas has a very ancient and rich history. The settlement was founded in the second century BC by the Thracians. Initially, the town was named “Larissa” – this is a Greek word and is translated as “gull”. In the Middle Ages, during the flourishing of Christianity, the village was named in honor of Saint Vlas, a patron of merchants and doctors.
The development of tourism industry here started in the 60’s of the 20th century. It turns out that the place where Sveti Vlas is located has very pure healing air. This is because the settlement is located between the sea shore and the Balkan Mountains, where a thick forest grows. The sea and mountain air mix together, thus forming a healing cocktail that is very useful for human health. Namely in Sveti Vlas the best sanatorium of the country was built in the 1960s for treatment of respiratory diseases.
